Nellore continues to be on the boil, a day after Jagan’s visit

A day after the visit of YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Nellore district continued to be on the boil with both the TDP and the YSRCP leaders staging protests and exchanging warnings.

Kovur constituency, which remained the epicentre of the controversy triggered by Mr. Jagan’s visit to the district, was on the edge on Friday, with women workers of the TDP preventing the YSRCP district working president P. Chandrasekhar Reddy from holding a press conference and staging a demonstration. They demanded an apology from the YSRCP leaders for the chaotic situation created during Mr. Jagan’s visit.

It may be recalled that Mr. Jagan’s visit to express solidarity to Kovur former MLA Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy was marred by pushing and jostling by the party cadre, in apparent violation of the cap imposed on the number of participants. A police head constable Malakondaiah sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Member of Parliament (Nellore) Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy lashed out at Mr. Jagan for ‘‘welcoming unscrupulous elements into his party, encouraging abusive language and promoting aggressive behaviour among his cadre’‘.

The MP called him as a ‘frustrated politician’ who had never been in the midst of people when he was in power, but trying to trigger trouble while in the Opposition now.

Former Minister and Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy flayed Mr. Jagan for having created avoidable trouble in the district.

“What message does Mr. Jagan want to convey to the public by calling on tainted leaders like Kakani Govardhan Reddy and Prasanna Kumar Reddy?” was his poser.

Taking exception to Mr. Jagan’s accusation that false cases were foisted on the opposition MLAs, he asked him to look back at his 2019-2024 regime to know what fake cases meant.

Meanwhile, YSRCP leader and MLC Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy termed Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Nellore as a ‘success’ and said that it had once again been proved that the NDA alliance government could never succeed in preventing him from reaching out to the public.
