Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh govt is planning to replicate the best practices of Singapore in the state, municipal administration minister Ponguru Narayana has said. The minister inspected several waste management plants, including the ALBA waste management plant, in Singapore on Friday. The plant collects solid waste from the public and converts it into various forms. Singapore officials explained the recycling of plastic waste, e-waste, and methods of generating electricity from other waste. They also detailed how they collect garbage using advanced vehicles. “The govt is already focusing on waste-to-energy and e-waste recycling in the state. We are planning to implement the methods followed in Singapore in AP,” said Narayana, who held separate meetings with senior officials of Singapore urban redevelopment authority and road development authority. He also visited Singapore’s first large-scale chicken processing unit. “The govt previously decided to build Amaravati as a smart city like Singapore. We are exploring the plans to utilize several methods followed by the Singapore govt for Amaravati. We will study the best practices in Singapore to transform our capital (Amaravati) into one of the world’s finest cities,” said Narayana. He examined the vehicles used for waste transportation and reviewed the method of collecting waste with modern technology and transferring it to the waste-to-energy plants. He also met representatives of Singapore Land Transport Authority which oversees surface transport facilities, infrastructure provision, and road construction in the city. Public transport systems, walking tracks, and cycling tracks also fall under this authority’s purview.
