The Tesla Cybertruck caused quite a frenzy when it came out, but the sales had a different story to tell. Despite it being a disappointment, the EV maker hasn’t given up on trucks. Lars Moravy, the company’s VP of Engineering, shared that a smaller truck could be in the works. At a Tesla owners and investors event in California, Moravy responded to a question about the idea of a smaller, more compact truck, saying, “We always talked about making a smaller pickup.” Tesla knows that the Cybertruck, in its current form, is simply too big for some markets. “I think in the future, as more and more of the robotaxi comes into the world, we look at those options and we think about, OK, that kind of service is useful not just for people, but also for goods,” said Moravy. This means that the EV maker is looking to get into the medium truck and small van segment. Currently, Tesla doesn’t have anything that fits into the category of ‘delivery vehicle.’ Moravy elaborated further, saying, “We’ve been churning in the design studio about what we might do to serve that need for sure.” While the Cybertruck was portrayed more as a lifestyle vehicle, the practicality of a medium-sized truck could prove to be a selling point for the company if and when it launches.
