AP Cancels Two Pumped Hydro Power Projects Allotted To Adani In Manyam District

Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled two pumped hydro storage power projects of 1,200mw capacity at Kurukutti and 1,000mw capacity at Karrivalasa located in Parvathipuram Manyam district.

These had been allotted to M/s Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL). The cancellation was done due to local issues and at the request of the developer. Chief secretary K Vijayanand issued GO Ms 55 here on Monday, cancelling the allotments to AGEL.

The Adani proposal for cancellation of allotment of the two projects was placed before the state investment promotion board meeting held on July 17. The board agreed for the cancellation. The government, after a detailed examination of the proposal of AGEL in consultation with various stakeholders, issued the orders for cancellation.

The company, in a letter dated 12-09-2024, sought the cancellation of both the projects due to boundary disputes between Odisha and AP. It requested refund of the facilitation charges the company paid or else to adjust it towards the allotment fee due for the 1,000mw capacity Pedakota and the `600mw capacity Raiwada PSP projects.

The new and renewable energy development corporation took into consideration the difficulties in conducting a survey and investigations due to border disputes. It requested the state government to consider cancellation of the Kurukutti and Karrivalas PSP projects and said there was no fault on the part of the developer, M/s AGEL.

It urged the government to accord its approval for adjustment of facilitation fee paid for these projects after deducting the expenses incurred for conducting the survey and investigations by NREDCAP against facilitation fee and DPR expenses incurred by the NREDCPA.

This, it said, can be done after adjusting the taxes payable in respect of 1,000 mw capacity Pedakota PSP and 600mw capacity Raiwada PSP projects, which were also allocated to the group companies of M/s AGEL.
