Hyderabad: A man in Chandanagar here did yoga asanas in a pothole as a sign of protest to highlight the inaction of the GHMC in not repairing the road for months. His protest, a video of which was widely shared, forced the authorities to stir out on a holiday and repair the pothole within hours.
Vinay Vangala, a local, said he had been complaining to the GHMC for two months to repair potholes on the roads at Matrusrinagar, near Miyapur. When the authorities did not respond, he resorted to performing yoga asanas in a pothole.
Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, Vangala said: “It has been more than 2 months since I began complaining. They were responding, but did not take any action.”
After Vangala’s protest in the pothole, authorities responded and filled it up within six hours.
GHMC executive engineer Indira, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, said, “During the rain, the roads got severe damage. We did note down the potholes and damage of colony roads, but we prioritised repairs of the main roads. We will soon repair all the potholes in the colonies.”
The GHMC has identified thousands of road issues, and has periodically stated that it was fixing them. It recently said that over 5,000 road issues had been rectified. Clearly, the effort did not extend to Chandanagar.
