Hanamkonda: A 16-year-old girl from Mancherial district died by suicide at a private junior college in Nayeemnagar, Hanamkonda, on Sunday, reportedly distressed over her academic performance and lack of interest in the chosen course.

Mittapalli Shivani was an MPC first-year student. According to police, she died by hanging in her hostel room.

In a suicide note allegedly written by her, Shivani expressed frustration over being forced into a course she did not wish to pursue. She said her poor academic performance had deepened her distress, and appealed to parents to consider their children’s interests and choices before enrolling them in academic programmes.

“I am unable to study this course. But you (parents) don’t understand it. I am crushed,” she wrote in the note. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, questions have been raised after the college management reportedly shifted Shivani’s body for post-mortem at MGM Hospital in Warangal without informing the family or police in advance.
