VinFast has opened its first EV assembly plant in India. It is the Vietnamese EV maker’s third operational plant and the fifth project in the world. Located at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, the new EV assembly unit is spread over 400 acres. It houses multiple workshops, including a body shop, paint shop, assembly shop, quality control center, and logistics hub. The plant will focus on assembling two electric SUVs for India: the VF 6 and VF 7. Initially, it will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, which can be expanded to 1,50,000 units annually to meet market demand. When fully operational, the plant will create 3,000-3,500 direct jobs, along with thousands of indirect jobs in the supply chain ecosystem.
