Finally the issue of clatter/engine noise as mentioned in all above posts got resolved during Bagheera’s (my Himalayan 450) first service at Kolkata.

Ownership Update: 17,389km

Those who are hearing a clatter noise from the engine, please note, this is not an issue with the tappets but the cam chain tensioner. RE identified the issue and replaced the part. Hope this helps other H450 owners.

There is a distinct clatter which develops at times, but again subsides on it’s own.
Quote from BHPian khan_sultan:
The chain tensioner. It also pays a vital part in the “chan-chan” noise,
Thanks to the efficient technicians at Aditya Motors, who took pains to measure the sound, found it to be around 76dB which is marginal though within the 77dB limit laid down by RE (as per them). They tried to identify the source of the noise by opening up the engine head and checking valve clearances. When those were found to be within limits, they pin pointed the hydro mechanical camchain tensioner as the source.
Now, this is important.
All first batch Himalayan owners may take note.
This tensioner has undergone a major design change.
The locks and spring in the earlier version have been done away with and the modified version resembles a hollow piston, which supposedly allows better lubrication as well.
In fact, the pic in khan_sultan‘s post dated December 2024 also shows the pre-update version.
The part costs ₹700.00 However, it was covered under warranty. Hence total bill was NIL
Also, as mentioned above, Bagheera was transported from Tezpur(Assam) to Kolkata.
Got a cage made specifically for transportation, and it paid dividends. Bagheera reached the City of Joy without a scrath
Happy miles to all.
