The sniffer dog squad in a joint operation with Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) seized 30 kgs ganja worth ₹1.5 lakh from three women on board Chennai-bound Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express at Vijayawada railway station.
The arrested smugglers were identified as Susanthi, Pushpa Latha, and Manisha, all natives of Nabarangpur in Odisha, said Railway Central Intelligence Branch (CIB) Inspector K. Madhusudhan, who headed the operation.
“During surprise raids on the halted trains at Vijayawada railway station on Monday (August 5, 2025), dog Leo, an expert in narcotics detection, pounced on the stocks concealed in the coach, and alerted the RPF and GRP personnel,” said inspector M.V. Durga Rao, Inspector of Railway Police (Lines).
During questioning, the women smugglers said that a man identified as Bola handed over three bags containing ganja (Cannabis) to them at Visakhapatnam station.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act, and other charges. The accused along with the seized ganja have been produced in the court, Mr. Madhusudhan said.
