The spate of racist attacks on Indians in Ireland is raising concern among the citizens in India. In a latest incident, a six-year-old girl of Indian origin, was brutally assaulted by a group of boys outside her home in Waterford, Ireland. Hitting her in her private parts, they shouted “Go back to India”. This is the first case of attack on a child of Indian origin in Ireland. The attack reportedly took place on August 4, when the victim was playing outside her home, along with her friends.
Her friends gang included an eight-year-old girl and several boys aged between 12 and 14 years.
The girl’s mother said they attacked her daughter when she went inside her home to feed their 10-month-old infant. She said that she was keeping an eye on her, sitting inside the house, till that moment.
After some time of the mother going inside, the girl came back into the house very upset and began crying. She was scared and could not talk, her mother said. Later, the woman was informed by one of her daughter’s friends that a gang of boys hit her on the private parts with a cycle and five of them punched her in the face.
Reportedly, one of the boys pushed the bicycle wheel onto her private parts and it became sore. “The boys said the F word and ‘Dirty Indian, go back to India. She told me today (Wednesday) they punched her neck and twisted her hair,” the woman told The Irish Mirror.
Recently, another Indian-origin man has reportedly been assaulted at Ballymun in Ireland, a suburb of Dublin. Lakhvir Singh was reportedly hit on the head with a bottle in an unprovoked attack, after which they shouted “go back to your own country.”
In a previous attack, a 40-year-old Indian man was beaten and stripped by a teenage gang in Tallaght, and a 32-year-old Indian-origin entrepreneur was brutally attacked by teenagers in Dublin.
Irish woman Jennifer Murray recounted how she rescued an Indian man attacked in a neighbourhood of Dublin. “He was set up by some teenagers who attacked him and stripped him of his clothing.” They cut his face, they beat him, they robbed his clothes, they robbed his phone and they left him, Murray said.
Murray said that it was entirely unprovoked and motivated by racism. There had been several similar assaults in the recent past. Indian men are being attacked involving facing stabbings by the same teen gang.
While US is trying to harass India with tariffs and more strict visa rules, Ireland youth are resorting to violent attacks on Indians.
