CM Revanth Reddy pays surprise visit to flood-hit colonies of Hyderabad, assures permanent solution

Heavy rains over the past two days brought Hyderabad’s flood troubles to the forefront once again, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy hitting the streets for a surprise inspection on Sunday, and promising swift action and long-term solution.

The Chief Minister visited flood-hit colonies at Ameerpet, Buddha Nagar, and Maitrivanam, and questioned officials from the GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and HYDRAA, on drainage issues and relief efforts.

HYDRAA chief A.V. Ranganath and officials accompanied the Chief Minister. They briefed him on the situation in low-lying localities and steps being taken to mitigate rain-related havoc.

At Buddha Nagar, Mr. Reddy identified a major flaw, a drainage line built higher than the colony road, and ordered immediate rectification to ensure free water flow. He also pulled up officials over residents’ complaints of illegal parking occupying the Gangubai Basti Kunta and instructed a speedy resolution.

To break the cycle of repeated inundation in the area, the CM directed the preparation of plans for a special trunk line as a permanent solution to the flood problem.

At Maitrivanam, which literally turned into a huge lake and stream twice due to the heavy downpour in the last one week, the CM took note of the residents’ complaints, who poured out their woes faced during the rainy season.

Mr. Reddy was touched when a 7th standard student, Jaswanth, described how floodwater repeatedly entered his house, and destroyed his books. Holding his hand, the Chief Minister promised full support and assured that his colony’s flood nightmare would be addressed once and for all.

This is the first such surprise visit of the Chief Minister in the city, and the residents looked visibly satisfied that Mr. Revanth Reddy himself had come to inspect and interact with them. Some women even tied rakhis to the CM to welcome him. The residents of these colonies hoped that their woes would soon end, as the CM himself has taken note of the seriousness of flooding.
