Rain Brings Relief For Kurnool

Kurnool: Continuous rainfall in the district on Friday and Saturday has caused flooding in parts of Gudur, C. Belagal, and Kodumur, submerging large areas of crops. Many parts of the district recorded heavy showers during this period. An upper trough formed in the region is bringing rainfall along with thunder and gale winds to several places.

Farmers see this spell of rain as beneficial, as there has been no significant rainfall for the past month. Crops have been sown in about one lakh hectares, but in June, 20 mandals recorded scanty rainfall. Although the monsoon arrived early in May, there was no continuous rain. So far in this Kharif season, the district has only seen sporadic heavy showers, which were not enough for agriculture. The present continuous rain is helping crop growth, especially cotton cultivated in the western region, and farmers are happy.

Steady rains revive Kurnool’s Kharif prospects after month-long dry spell

Kurnool city is also experiencing intermittent showers in the evenings and nights, providing relief from hot weather. Agriculture scientists are advising farmers to sow seeds only when 7.5 cm of rain is recorded in a single day or when it rains continuously for three days. Otherwise, with limited water, there could be germination problems.
