War 2 is set to release on 14 August 2025. While expectations remain high, the advance booking that opened on Sunday, 10 August, has not lived up to the hype. Although seats are filling for some shows, very few have sold out, which is unusual for a film in such a successful franchise. Trade analysts believe the numbers could improve just a day before the theatrical release as last-minute bookings are common for big titles.
The film has managed to sell roughly 40,000 to 50,000 tickets within 24 hours, a figure that falls short when compared to Pathaan, another YRF Spy Universe film, which sold almost one lakh tickets in the same timeframe. In contrast, Coolie has been enjoying stronger sales, with shows selling out quickly, especially in Tamil Nadu. For the Hindi market, predictions remain uncertain as the response will depend entirely on how audiences receive the film’s content.
With two major stars leading the cast, War 2’s advance booking was expected to be much stronger. The underwhelming response is being attributed to the promotional campaign, including the trailer and songs, which failed to leave a lasting impression. This is a sharp contrast to the buzz in 2019 before the release of War. Adding to the uncertainty is the confusion around Jr. NTR’s role. While initially announced as the antagonist, the trailer hints at the possibility that his intentions may align with Kabir, a character who works for India.
Advance booking in the Telugu states has not yet begun, and this is seen as the key factor that could change the film’s fortunes. Jr. NTR commands a massive fan following in these regions, and large crowds are expected for the Telugu-dubbed version once bookings open. Early insider reports about War 2 have been positive, but the reaction to the first day’s first show will ultimately determine whether the film sustains its run in theatres.
