The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) will organise a record-setting 10-kilometre-long national flag display on Thursday (August 14, 2025), as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, urging citizens to participate irrespective of caste or religion. With this initiative, the Guntur local body embraces the national record on the eve of Independence Day celebrations.

GMC Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu told The Hindu on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) that this would be the first time in the country such a display of a 9-foot-wide and ten kilometres length national flag will be held. He called upon residents, students, and institutions to join the patriotic event in large numbers, emphasising its role in fostering unity and national pride.

The event, being organised under the instructions of District Collector S. Nagalakshmi and as per the Central Government’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav guidelines, will begin at 3 p.m. on August 14. The route will start at the railway gate on Inner Ring Road (Phase 1), passing through Amaravati Road, Lakshmipuram Road, Brindavan Gardens, and Gujjanagundla, covering a total of 10 kilometres.

Mr. Srinivasulu noted that the previous record was a 9-kilometre flag display and expressed confidence that Guntur would set a new milestone. After the event, the flag will be folded and preserved for next year, with plans to increase its length by one kilometre annually.

Traffic arrangements will be finalised by district police authorities, and the participation of district officials, public representatives, NGOs, educational institutions, and the general public has been sought. As part of Har Ghar Tiranga, residents are also encouraged to hoist the national flag atop their homes from August 13 to 15.

The Commissioner said the initiative would instil patriotism among citizens and remind the youth and students of India’s freedom struggle, urging everyone to take part in the historic display.
