Hyderabad: The Mahbubnagar district administration booked a case against a bakery in front of Jadcherla police station and sealed it for selling a vegetarian puff with a skink.
A woman, Srisaila purchased two vegetarian puffs from the bakery and reached home. When she opened the cover, a skink was found on one of the puffs leaving her and her family members shell-shocked. The family members approached the police and lodged a complaint against the bakery.
Jadcherla Inspector B Kamalakar confirmed about the incident stating that a petition was received against the bakery and immediately they brought the matter to the notice of district food inspector V Neelima seeking her assistance.
When contacted, Neelima said a case under provisions of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was booked against the bakery and initiated penal action. She said that expired ingredients to be used for making baked food items were found during a detailed examination of the bakery after registering the case.
Following instructions from higher officials, the bakery was sealed till further notice. The district administration warned of serious action if any shopkeeper or bakery owner were found to be selling substandard quality of food to customers.
Officials also asked the people to bring it to the notice of nearest police or the district food inspector if any shopkeeper found to be selling poor quality food.
