It has now clocked 15,000 kms in 10 months, and the ownership experience has been excellent so far

15,000 Kms Update
It’s been a while since the last update on our Seltos D AT. A couple of further observations:
1. Performance: The car performs flawlessly in all driving conditions. Very happy, overall. Since we owned the 1st gen Creta 1.6 D AT for a long time, we keep comparing the two cars. In terms of power/torque and overall performance, the Creta comes out as an obvious winner (with a slightly larger engine capacity and higher power output). The Seltos, however, isn’t far behind and rather feels more refined and smoother to drive.
2. DPF: No DPF-related issues (touchwood). Our driving pattern includes plenty of open road runs. However, there are times when the car is only driven in Delhi NCR’s mad traffic conditions for extended periods. In that case, we do make sure that it is taken out for a 20-30 minute drive on open roads where we maintain RPMs (between 2k and 2.5k) high enough to burn off accumulated soot.
3. Oil Dilution: Oil dilution is another factor to watch out for, and I’m happy to report that there is no visible oil dilution happening (or at least the oil level hasn’t increased to any alarming level). While the oil might have lost some or perhaps a lot of its viscosity that I’m unable to assess, the oil level remains within the prescribed range. Here is a picture of one of the many times we have checked the oil level after a drive:
Also, we wanted to change the engine oil every 5,000 kms, but circumstances worked out in a way that a ~2,000 km trip fell in between, and by the time we returned, the car had run more than 6,000 kms post the last oil change. We would have the 3rd (20,000 kms) service done ahead of schedule to ensure the oil is changed at the earliest.
4. Black Paint Maintenance: While the black paintwork looks smashing when all clean and polished, it can be a challenge to maintain. I often see black cars parked in the open, and they are usually all messy. In our dusty environment, darker colored cars are generally difficult to keep clean, and this is where covered parking comes in really handy. It was one of the factors we had in mind when we finalized on a black car – covered parking does make a HUGE difference. We have had a couple of instances when the car was parked in the open, and it just doesn’t take long for the car to get covered in dust and look rather dull.
We haven’t applied any PPF or ceramic coating, nor do we hand our cars to society car cleaners. For regular upkeeping, we use a Jopasu car duster and wash it with a good-quality car shampoo and lots of soft microfiber cloths. Occasionally, we use the following products from Turtle, which work wonderfully for maintaining the paintwork and keeping it shiny.
