Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has directed the district collectors and superintendents of police to be on alert for the next three days in view of the heavy rain forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The district administration should take steps to ensure that there is no loss of life or property as some parts of the State received more rainfall than what has been anticipated. Keeping this in view, necessary preventive and precautionary measures should be initiated.

The Minister, accompanied by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, held a video conference with district collectors and superintendents of police on Thursday (August 14, 2025) to review their preparedness for tackling the situation arising out of the heavy rainfall forecast.

They enquired with the district collectors about the prevailing conditions in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mancherial, Bhupalpalli, Mulugu, Asifabad, Peddapally, Karimnagar and other areas which received more than 10 cm rain in the past 24 hours. They said a red alert had been issued for Medak, Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts and cautioned the district authorities to take necessary steps.

The Minister said the government had released ₹1 crore for each district for taking up relief and rehabilitation measures and was prepared to release more funds if need be. Senior officials were appointed as special officers for 10 districts to supervise the implementation of relief measures. The district officials were directed to call back employees on leave by cancelling their leaves so that they were available for discharging their duties.

The collectors were briefed about the measures that should be initiated in low lying areas and those under threat of inundation. In the twin cities, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, GHMC and police should work in close coordination to avoid inconvenience to people. Special focus should be laid on railway lines, low level bridges, causeways and low-lying areas to ensure that there was no water logging. Police personnel should be posted at low level bridges and steps should be taken to prevent spread of seasonal diseases, he said.

Equal emphasis should be on movement of traffic in the State capital as well as in district headquarters so that people were not put to hardships.
