Hyderabad: GHMC is set to begin a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based survey and mapping of stormwater drains across the city to improve flood management and drainage planning.
The project will employ drone surveys to create high-accuracy base maps, which will then be used to digitally map the entire stormwater drainage network. This will include precise details of drain locations, sizes, connections, culverts and catch pits, all linked to geospatial coordinates.
The data will help prepare a detailed stormwater drain master plan, study water flow patterns, assess flood risks, and plan measures to reduce flooding during heavy rains. Officials said the visual maps created through the project will also be shared with local communities to raise awareness about drainage systems and encourage residents to report issues.

Alongside Raghunandan, Dr. Vinay Hazare from Madhya Pradesh was also awarded. Out of 15 people selected for the Hero Award this year, Raghunandan was the only one from South India.
