Hyderabad: Himayatsagar inflows drop sharply, easing flood threat along Musi River

Hyderabad: Inflows into the Himayatsagar reservoir declined significantly from Friday morning onwards, providing major relief to hundreds of families residing along the Musi River.

The HMWSSB officials who were monitoring floodwater inflows noticed a substantial decrease in water flow on Friday at 6 am due to reduced rainfall in upstream areas.

At 6.30 am, the Himayatsagar recorded inflows of 3,500 cusecs and an outflow of 5,215 cusecs. The current water level of the reservoir stands at 1,762.35 feet, compared to the Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1,763.50 feet, resulting in a 1.15-foot shortage. Currently, the Hyderabad Water Board officials are operating four floodgates in Himayatsagar.

Inflows in the Musi River are ongoing, and the Moosarambagh bridge and the Puranapul bridge remain inundated.

The Rajendra Nagar police have shut the ORR service road (exit 17), restricting traffic movement. Subsequently, traffic was also diverted at Moosarambagh due to heavy inflows affecting the bridge. “We are monitoring the inflows and will open the service road based on HMWSSB officials’ instructions,” a traffic cop of Rajendra Nagar told Telangana Today.
