Hyderabad: The monsoon has once again turned grim for Telangana as the toll in rain-related incidents has climbed to six, with two more deaths reported on Friday. While the skies over Hyderabad and many other districts offered some relief with lighter spells, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of fresh rounds of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the coming days.

In Mahbubnagar district, tragedy struck on August 13 when 45-year-old Anjilalayya lost control of his two-wheeler and fell into a large pool of rainwater, leading to his death, as per a TOI report. The same day in Jagtial district, locals stumbled upon the body of an unidentified man along a stream in Rajeshwarraopet, Medpally mandal.

In another alarming incident in Suryapet on Friday, a car driver had a miraculous escape after his vehicle plunged into a branch canal of the Nagarjunasagar Left Bank Canal at Kalluru in Nereducherla mandal. He reportedly lost control at a curve, causing the car to overturn into the water, but managed to swim to safety before locals reached the spot.

Heavy rain lashes several districts

While Friday brought only light rain to most areas, the past few days have seen intense downpours across Telangana. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, Chillipched in Medak recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 150 mm in the 24 hours ending Friday morning. This was followed by 129 mm at Kothaguda (Mahbubabad) and 123 mm at Watpalle (Sangareddy). Several other locations in Medak, Sangareddy, Nizamabad, and Mahbubabad also saw between 64 mm and 117 mm.

Between 8:30 am and 4 pm on Friday, the heaviest showers were reported in Eturunagaram (Mulugu) with 43 mm, Kowdipally in Medak (30 mm), Shankarampet in Medak (26 mm), Singapore in Sangareddy (23 mm), Venkatapuram in Mulugu (20 mm) and Chinnjatram in Narayanpet (19 mm)

IMD issues warnings

The IMD has issued a ‘very heavy rainfall’ alert for isolated places in Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sangareddy, and Kamareddy. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Vikarabad, and Medak districts.

The forecast for Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana suggests generally cloudy skies with spells of rain or thunderstorms in the coming days. The IMD has also cautioned about thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.

With several lakes and streams already overflowing, officials have urged the public to exercise extreme caution.
