War 2 box office collections are turning out to be a disappointment, with no chance of crossing the 50 crore mark in its entire run. The Hindi version showed a 50 percent jump from day one on Friday with around Rs. 45 crore net, but this growth was mainly from mass belts. The bigger multiplex markets could not even cross 50 percent occupancy, proving that Independence Day gave the film a push rather than genuine audience excitement.
In two days, War 2 has collected Rs. 73 crore net. On the surface, this may look acceptable, but when compared to the budget, hype, and brand value, it is nothing short of disastrous. A film mounted on such a massive scale should have dominated across circuits. Instead, North, West, and Central India have posted alarmingly weak numbers that underline the lack of strong audience pull.
Saturday is already showing signs of a fall despite being a weekend. Morning shows were 55 percent lower than Friday, confirming that Friday’s Rs. 45 crore, boosted by the holiday, will remain the film’s peak. Trade circles had initially expected War 2 to achieve Rs. 50 crore net in Hindi on multiple days, but that target now looks impossible in the film’s entire run. For a pan India spectacle, this is a serious setback.
Coolie is also facing trouble at the box office. The Hindi version opened with Rs. 5 crore on day one and went up only to Rs. 6.5 crore on day two despite the holiday. In South India, the film’s two-day all India total across languages is around Rs. 110 crore net, which is decent but still below the sky-high expectations it carried.
The bottom line is clear. Both War 2 and Coolie are underperforming, but War 2’s failure is more damaging. For a Rs. 400 crore Spy Universe film, such a start is nothing less than embarrassing.
