Kishan Lauds State RERA, Centre’s Housing Schemes

Hyderabad: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy lauded the recent establishment of a permanent regulatory authority and an appellate tribunal for the real estate sector in Telangana. He described this move by the Telangana government in 2024 as a landmark step to bring greater transparency, accountability, and consumer protection in the industry.

Participating in the Credai Hyderabad Property Show 2025 held at Hitex Exhibition Centre, Kishan Reddy emphasised that ensuring homebuyers’ interests while balancing the aspirations of the real estate sector is a shared responsibility of developers, regulators, state governments and the Central government.

He recalled that the Centre introduced the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act (RERA) in 2016 with the aim of improving transparency and protecting homebuyers.

Highlighting the robust registration of nearly 10,000 projects and 4,000 agents under RERA in Telangana, he credited Modi government’s economic policies over the past 11 years for the growth of the real estate sector alongside the expanding middle class. These policies and programmes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat, PM Ujjwala, and Ayushman Bharat have helped lift 20 crore people out of extreme poverty, enabling many to realise the dream of owning a home.

Kishan Reddy pointed out that factors like income tax exemption up to ₹12 lakh and reduced interest rates on home loans have improved the affordability of houses for the middle class. He welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to reduce GST slabs, which would further ease the financial burden on common citizens by lowering taxes on goods and services.

Speaking about India’s economic ambitions, Kishan Reddy said the country is now a $4 trillion economy with a target to grow to $35 trillion by 2047. He identified “Ease of Living” as a key government objective and stressed that developing livable urban spaces requires a proactive and responsible real estate sector.

He praised CREDAI’s efforts in promoting the goals and expressed hope that the industry would continue playing a pivotal role in realising the vision of a developed India by 2047.
