Mediation reduces burden on courts, says Justice Sam Koshy

Warangal: Mediation has become a global practice and an effective tool to significantly reduce the burden on courts, said Justice P. Sam Koshy of the High Court after inaugurating a 40-hour training programme on the Concept and Techniques of Mediation for advocates. The programme was launched on Sunday at the DCC Bank in Subedari, Hanamkonda, in the presence of Telangana State Legal Services Authority executive chairman, Justice J. Sreenivas Rao.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Koshy said trained mediators, with their experience, have become an integral part of the legal system. Mediation, he explained, offers parties an opportunity to resolve disputes without going through the entire judicial process, thereby saving time and money while fostering peace and harmony. Increasingly, corporations, businesses, and companies in fast-growing cities are turning to mediation to settle conflicts.

Justice Koshy also stressed the need to expand mediation services to remote areas with the help of empanelled lawyers and para-legal volunteers. He urged advocates to make full use of the training to help clients resolve disputes amicably through mediation.

Justice J. Sreenivas Rao, in his address, said mediation is a powerful process that allows litigants to resolve conflicts on their own by setting aside anger and differences. Mediation, he noted, also helps preserve both commercial and personal relationships.

The programme, organised for lawyers from six districts of the erstwhile Warangal region, was attended by Principal District Judges V.B. Nirmala Geethamba and Dr B. Pattabhirama Rao, along with judges and legal services officials from other districts.
