Congress MPs demand 2L MT urea supply to Telangana

Hyderabad: Congress MPs from Telangana on Monday raised the issue of short supplies of urea by the Centre to the state in Parliament and urged for release of fertiliser.Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha highlighting the crisis of urea shortage in Telangana. He pointed out that the Centre had allocated 9.80 lakh metric tonnes of urea for Telangana during the current kharif season but only 4.50 lakh metric tonnes was supplied so far.“Telangana should have received 6.60 lakh metric tonnes by Aug 13, but only 4.50 lakh metric tonnes have been supplied so far. This shortfall of 2.10 lakh metric tonnes has led to a severe shortage, resulting in farmers getting worried,” Kiran Kumar Reddy said, adding that timely supply of urea was critical to safeguard the state’s agricultural output this season.The Telangana Congress MPs also held a protest outside Parliament holding placards and demanding Telangana’s deserving share of urea supplies from the Centre.
