Hyderabad: Police have booked a 35-year-old man for allegedly cheating his wife by concealing two earlier marriages. Identified as EN Ravi alias Rafi, he also misrepresented his age, misused her property, and subjected her to physical assault and intimidation, the police said.
Concealed marriages and age fraud
According to the complaint, the woman married Ravi in 2017, after he claimed to be unmarried. She later discovered that he had already been married twice before.
The accused also allegedly hid his true age, claiming to be only four or five years older, when the actual age difference was 14 years. He is said to have withheld his birth certificate to conceal the fact.
Property and gold misuse
The complainant further alleged that Ravi converted from Hinduism to Islam to obtain land registered in her name at Siddipet.
He later mortgaged the property to raise loans from private financiers without her consent. She also accused him of taking away 20 tolas of gold given by her family and pledging it for personal gains.
Exploitation of younger women
The woman alleged that Ravi had a pattern of targeting much younger women, often students, and blackmailing them with audio and video recordings.
Assault and threats
Apart from financial exploitation, Ravi allegedly subjected her to repeated physical assaults and issued death threats, leaving her in fear for her safety.
Police Action
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 85, 318(4), 316(2), 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Attapur Inspector K. Nageswara Rao said the case is under investigation. “We are, however, counselling them,” he added.
