Xiaomi’s long YU7 waitlist makes CEO suggest Tesla to frustrated buyers

Xiaomi’s long YU7 waitlist makes CEO suggest Tesla to frustrated buyers Xiaomi’s first electric SUV, the YU7, got off to a flying start with the company receiving around 240,000 orders in the first 18 hours itself. Now Xiaomi is struggling to keep up with demand. New customers are being told they’ll need to wait an average of 56-59 weeks before taking delivery. Customers are now frustrated with the long waiting periods. In response to the complaints, Xiaomi chief executive Lei Jun suggested shoppers in need of an EV urgently would be wise to consider other Chinese-made EVs. “If you need to buy a car quickly, other China-produced new energy vehicles are pretty good,” he wrote on social media. Some of his recommendations were the Xpeng G7, Li Auto i8 and surprisingly, also the Tesla Model Y, which is a direct rival to the YU7. “The Model Y is a great car, and Tesla also announced several promotions yesterday, so you might want to consider it,” he said. The Xiaomi YU7 is available in three variants: Standard, Pro and Max. Prices start at 253,500 yuan (35,000 USD), going up to 329,900 yuan (approx 46,000 USD). Source: Carscoops
