Beautify Bathukammakunta Ahead of Dasara: HYDRAA Chief to Officials

Hyderabad: With Dasara approaching and Bathukamma festival around the corner, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath has directed officials to ensure that Bathukammakunta is fully developed and beautified on time for the celebrations. He said that while the construction of the Bathukamma Kunta was completed, the surrounding areas still needed to be developed properly.

On Wednesday, Ranganath inspected the ongoing development works and instructed that the planned walkway around the lake, plantation of shady trees and seating arrangements for visitors must be completed without delay. He also stressed on ensuring inlets and outlets of the lake should function properly.

Referring to recent rains, he pointed out that storm-water from nearby colonies and bastis was diverted directly into Bathukamma Kunta, preventing flooding of residential areas. He added that once the lake is filled, water will flow smoothly downstream without obstruction.

He noted that Bathukamma Kunta should become a model not only for flood prevention, but also for groundwater recharge and environmental protection. He recalled that during a recent visit, central teams had described the lake as a model project at the national level and stressed that development must meet public expectations.

He directed officials overseeing the works to shape the lake in a way that reflects the cultural essence of Bathukamma, including creating a central installation, symbolising the festival. He also gave instructions that surroundings be beautified with greenery and designed to create a pleasant environment as well as hygienic restrooms should be provided to the visitors. The HYDRA commissioner further suggested that security arrangements should be made to safeguard the lake premises.
