The team India management is already facing several complaints on social media for the questionable choices they made when it came to squad selection for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. But it looks like the circus show is going to continue as India is continuing to make rather rushed choices.
The latest reports are suggesting that Shreyas Iyer could be replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain of the ODI team for India. Reportedly, he is being seen as the next replacement for Rohit Sharma in the ODI format, and the stage is being prepared for the same.
Earlier it was reported that Shubman Gill would be the all format captain for India after he was announced as the captain of the test team and also the vice captain of the T20 team. It appears that BCCI is going for workload management, and that is the reason why Shreyas could be coming in as the ODI captain.
With one random decision being taken almost every week, the management is absolutely shuffling around with the fundamental core of the team and also the usually highly-rated captaincy position.
It is also heard that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had recently retired from the T20 format are likely to take part in the upcoming Australia’s ODI series and could be announcing their retirement subsequently. But at the same time, there are also reports that these two superstars could be there in the 2027 cricket World Cup and could be retiring only after that.
If Rohit decides to be a part of the World Cup squad, then the appointment of Iyer as the captain could take longer. Else, he could be announced as the captain after the ODI series itself.
Things are looking very confusing for the time being, and it has to be seen how the captaincy stint would be transpiring in the days to follow. What is for certain is that BCCI is largely uncertain about the series of events.
