Chaos erupted at an event being attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta earlier today in the Gandhi Nagar area of the national capital. Notably, this was the first public event being attended by Gupta after being attacked. Following the incident, a 60-year-old man was apprehended for raising slogans against BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely and creating a ruckus.

According to an official cited by PTI, the man has been identified as Praveen Sharma, who runs a cable TV business in Ajeet Nagar. He claimed to be a BJP worker, associated with the party for the last 40 years, they said.

“Praveen Sharma, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, raised slogans against Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely while he was addressing the people,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said.

The officer said Sharma was standing in a street behind security barricades and was immediately escorted away from the venue.

“Security of the VIP was not breached at any point in time,” the DCP asserted.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who was in Gandhi Nagar under ‘Z’ category VIP security, was attending the inaugural event of Vastrika— an open-market garment exhibition organized by the Gandhi Nagar wholesale market. During the event, she announced local MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely as the new Chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board.

“He has been in top posts in the Delhi government, but just for the sake of development, without any hidden agendas, joined the BJP. He is like the chief minister of Gandhi Nagar. He took an oath for Delhi’s development. Lovely will be the chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board,” she said.

She further said, “I assure you that your Chief Minister Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not lose. Till Delhi gets its rights, she will keep fighting with you. It is my vow to continuously fight with you.”

At the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed local MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely and East Delhi MP and Union Minister Harsh Malhotra to prepare a detailed budget proposal for the development of the Gandhi Nagar area.

“I am sanctioning the budget today. You just prepare the file with the budget estimates,” she announced.

Gupta also shared that her government is launching a comprehensive route-mapping initiative for all DTC buses, starting with the Trans-Yamuna region.

“We will fix the routes. Every area will get adequate buses,” she assured the gathering.

This marked Gupta’s first public appearance since she was attacked during a Jan Sunwai programme at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday.
