Hyderabad: An IT employee was booked for an attempted theft at Ram Naresh Nagar in KPHB in the early hours of Thursday. Police said the accused, who had reportedly lost Rs 6–7 lakh in betting apps, resorted to theft to repay his debts, KPHB inspector S. Rajashekhar Reddy said.

The accused was identified as Sudheer Kumar, a native of Prakasam district. According to a complaint lodged by Vikas Reddy, 29, a software engineer residing in the locality, an unidentified man entered their house near the Ramalayam Temple around 7 am on Thursday.

At the time, the complainant’s grandmother, A. Manamma, 84, was alone and engaged in her morning chores. The intruder, described as around 25 years old and of medium build, hid behind a bedroom door for nearly 15 minutes, allegedly waiting to steal valuables. On spotting him, the elderly woman raised an alarm, drawing neighbours to the house.

Sudheer carried a small vegetable knife and had covered his head and hands with a polythene bag. A bike was parked at the end of the street for his escape.

Neighbours attempted to catch him, and visuals of them beating him with footwear surfaced on social media. However, he managed to flee. Police registered a case and launched a search for him.

Teacher booked for beating Class I boy

Hyderabad: A six-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by his class teacher for taking out the wrong notebook at The Model City School, Gautampuri Colony, Erragadda. While the incident occurred on August 13, it came to light on Thursday after the boy’s father shared the details on social media.

According to a complaint lodged at Borabanda police station, the Class I student was beaten during a mathematics lesson. The teacher was identified as Tabassum.

An FIR was registered under Section 115(2) of the BNS and Section 82 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. Police said a chargesheet is yet to be filed. “We have served notices to her,” Borabanda inspector M. Surender confirmed.

The boy’s father also shared a leave letter submitted to the school, stating that his son has been fearful and anxious since the incident and did not want to attend classes. Further investigation is underway.

Teen girl ends life in Vanasthalipuram

Hyderabad: A 16-year-old girl from Vanasthalipuram died by suicide in Sharad Nagar. Her family rushed her to a nearby hospital after finding her unresponsive, but doctors declared her brought dead.

Police said the girl was unable to cope with the recent death of her close friend. It may be recalled that P. Uma Maheshwar, an intermediate student, had also died by suicide recently after failing in his exams. He was reportedly depressed and withdrawn before ending his life.

According to her father’s statement, the girl had been disturbed since her friend’s death and remained withdrawn, unable to come to terms with the loss. Vanasthalipuram police registered a case and are investigating.
