Got Maddog Scout X aux lights for KTM 390 Duke: Are they good enough?

I was confused between Maddog Lycan and Scout X auxiliary lights and decided to pick the latter because of its size.

Mods/upgrades

Can a biker ever avoid them? I couldn’t too and my Duke gets some basic upgrades!

The first upgrade I wanted to do was for the lights. Night riding on highways with the stock headlights was getting difficult and add rains to that, it became a tad difficult to ride. And every vehicle now has glaring white light which impairs vision briefly.

While deciding on the lights, I researched a couple of other brands like HJG and Future Eyes too. They are good in terms of price, size of the lights, no filters required to change light colors, and other features like dimmer and flash etc. But they all had one thing in common – made in China!

I almost went for them when I came to know that Maddog is an Indian made brand. The lights lacked features which I mentioned, and the smallest size one can get is Scout. Nevertheless, I decided to go with Maddog. The online reviews are good, and it also comes with an 18-month warranty!

The final dilemma was choosing between Scout X and Lycan. Scout X has 4 LEDs and 4800 lumens. Lycan while being more powerful with 7 LEDs and at 10800 lumens, was too big in size for my liking. I decided to go for Scout X for its size and was wondering if it would be sufficient.

Bash plate for the underbelly. Love this cap with the brand logo

Radiator Guard

Fork Seal Cover

So, is the Scout X sufficient enough for me? I’d say hell yeah! Enough spread for me to view ahead and less glare for the oncoming vehicle to pass by without vision impairment.

Now itching to go for a tail tidy but I was advised against it. I was told – do it only if you don’t like your pillion rider. Another said – Be prepared for a muddy shirt/bag, if you are riding alone, especially in the rains. No one seems to have cracked a solution for this. Till that time, I guess I will live with the tail.

Pssst, someone said get FuelX. No, I am not listening. Maybe some other day, some other place.
