The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association high school football season kicked off Aug. 21 and Aug. 22. Four of our preseason top 10 teams fell in Week 1, including top 5 programs Muskego and Mukwonago. Here is more on the Week 1 action.
1. Slinger (1-0)
The Owls began their WIAA Division 2 state title defense with a 37-0 shutout win over Menomonee Falls. Next: at Badger, Aug. 29.
2. Muskego (0-1)
Muskego was iced on a potential game-winning field goal attempt at Neenah and missed the official try after a late timeout and clock delay, falling 14-13. Next: vs. Oak Creek, Aug. 29.
3. Interview (0-1)
Mukwonago dropped its home opener against Appleton North, 21-6. Next: vs. Sun Prairie East, Aug. 29.
4. Arrowhead (1-0)
The Warhawks dominated on the road against Marquette in a 53-22 win, led by two TD connections between Nolan Hanson and Ryan Heiman, and a trio of scoring backs including Jacob Siner, Jebari Craig and Devin Nettles. Next: vs. Neenah, Aug. 29.
5. Franklin (1-0)
The Sabers narrowly edged past Catholic Memorial, 23-20, led by a punt return touchdown and pick-six from Dominick Walters. Next: vs. Brookfield Central, Aug. 29.
6. Catholic Memorial (0-1)
Miscues haunted the Crusaders in a narrow loss to Franklin, but CMH still came within an onside kick recovery of having a chance to tie or take the lead in the final minute. Next: vs. Sun Prairie West, Aug. 28.
7. Racine Case (1-0)
Racine Case spoiled Matthew McDonnell’s home debut with Cedarburg, shutting out the Bulldogs, 17-0. Next: vs. Sussex Hamilton, Aug. 29.
8. Oconomowoc (1-0)
The Raccoons put up 20 points in the first quarter en route to a 38-14 win over Pulaski in Oconomowoc’s home opener. Next: at Verona, Aug. 29.
9. Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1)
Wisconsin Lutheran fell in its home opener to Waukesha West, 38-14. Next: at Whitefish Bay, Aug. 29.
10. Homestead (1-0)
Homestead defended home turf against Germantown, winning 43-15 in a 2024 WIAA second round playoff rematch. Next: at Kettle Moraine, Aug. 29.
