Yes, there is apparently a Kobe Bryant movie in the works. Here is what we know so far.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, a film project written by Alex Sohn and Gavin Johannsen entitled “With the 8th Pick” has landed at Warner Bros., and will follow “the high-stakes process that led to Bryant getting drafted into the NBA in 1996.” According to the report, the project had generated a large interest from other studios and streamers before Warner Bros. scooped it up and grabbed it, and while Bryant had many noteworthy moments in his legendary career, “With the 8th Pick” focuses solely on the time period right before he was drafted.
Per THR, the film will hone in on the New Jersey Nets (now known as the Brooklyn Nets) and then-manager John Nash, who held the eighth pick in the draft and considered taking Bryant out of high school. Of course, Bryant was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th pick before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he established a Hall of Fame career, winning five championships.
