As I work in the classic car restoration space, I’ve been wanting to recreate models of cars that I’ve personally worked on.
One of them is a 1950 Ford F-1 pickup truck which was originally owned by the Maharani of Pratapner State, and used for farming duties. After lying idle for years, it was given a refresh to compete in 2023’s edition of the 21 Gun Salute Concours in Baroda where it received the Runner’s Up award in the commercial vehicle class. I started with a Maisto 1:24 scale F-1 which I found in a toy store in Dubai. It looked quite drab and boring in its matte grey shade, it almost looked like they left it at primer and forgot to paint it!
Post dismantling, the truck was ready for paint.
While some creatures thought the colour was perfect, I wasn’t happy that it didn’t match and decided to repaint it again.
Finally, after detailing and putting it back together, it looked great! I was especially proud of the ‘wooden’ bed. Earlier it was the same primer-looking body-colour, but now I had painted it brown and once that dried, used some wastecloth dipped in black paint to get into the grain, making it far more realistic.
I had even made a small wiper out of a safety pin and piece of rubber, just to mimic the real car.
Next in line is a Jaguar XK140 and a VW Beetle.
