Nara Rohith took a break from films to address concerns about his script selection, underwhelming box office results and even his looks. He came back with Bhairavam and now, he is coming up with a romantic comedy, Sundarakanda. The movie has good buzz within Industry as it secured record pre-release business figures for any Rohith starrer. Even Leon James songs have been popular and the movie is promising to be a hilarious laugh riot for this Ganesh Chathurthi. Let’s discuss about the movie in detail.

Plot:

Siddharth (Nara Rohith) keep rejecting probable matches as he fixates on 5 qualities, he saw in a senior girl Vaishnavi (Sridevi Vijay Kumar) during his school days. He believes that his ideal match is only girl who can match all of them. His family also gives up on his marriage as he grows older and his reasons for rejection get sillier.

He falls in love with a college student, Eira (Vriti Vaghani) and becomes the best person in her life after her mother. As they both decide to get married, he finds out that she is Vaishnavi’s daughter. What will he do next? Will their love go to the wedding destination? Watch the movie to know more.

Analysis:

Nara Rohith worked on his looks and he slimmed down considerably to play a romantic lead. He also took a risk in accepting such a story but his conviction in portraying it is commendable. He is able to pull off the role and look younger than his previous films. Vriti Vaghani looked cute and performed very well suiting the age and the character. She had believable chemistry with Rohith, too.

Sridevi Vijay Kumar impresses with her screen presence and performance. She is very good in convincing in her role. Vasuki had very good scenes and she did her best in them. Satya, once again, delivered hilarious punchlines and Sunaina, Abhinav did well. Naresh scenes worked pretty well. While the performances are good, it is the writing part that needs a lot of conviction.

The makers tried to deliver a romantic comedy that doesn’t resort to any sort of cheap one-liners and shallow comedy. They did keep it very clean and found ways to generate comedy within the premise of the story. Venkatesh Nimmalapudi succeeded in maintaining pace and did not let the awkwardness creep into the writing. He handled the scenes in a matured manner yet it is hard to accept that a person who loved mother falls in love with the daughter.

Lamhe film handled this storyline and delivered a classic in Hindi but it is hard to conceive such a project for today’s generation. The makers did their best to keep things smooth and fun till the last moment. There are some good punchlines and situational comedy does keep the screenplay interesting. Predictability factor does creep in towards the climax and it does feel a bit rushed and convenient. A strong climax would have been better for the film.

Overall, the film has good music from Leon James, mainly, Dear Eira and Please Ma’am stand out. His BGM is apt to the film, production values need to be lauded. The cinematography also supports the narrative. While the movie doesn’t have high moments and too much of drag, it does keep us engaged without boredom. It is the conflict point that might divide the audiences.

Bottomline:

Sundarakanda is a decent entertainer with an awkward storyline which might evoke mixed reactions.

Rating: 2.5/5
