Telangana HC Seeks Details of Pandal Applications

Hyderabad: Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday sought details from GHMC on applications and objections relating to Ganesh idol installations in Hyderabad. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Patha Sunil Kumar, challenging the proposed installation of a Ganesh mandapam in front of the petitioner’s residence at BK Guda, SR Nagar. It was the case of the petitioner that the installation on the public road would obstruct ingress and egress to his house. He contended that in earlier years the organisers played loud music and raised slogans during the festivities, disturbing his family, and that his wife, who is pregnant, would face serious difficulty if exposed to such noise. The government pleader submitted that no permission had been granted for the alleged installation and assured the judge that approvals, if any, would be issued only after conducting due enquiry and considering objections from local residents. Observing that the issue concerns the public at large, the judge sought a comprehensive report from the authorities.

Excise cop loses promotion plea

Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka of the Telangana High Court dismissed a writ plea challenging the revision of seniority in the prohibition and excise department. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by P. Arun Kumar, excise sub-inspector, challenging the proceedings of the deputy commissioner of prohibition and excise. The petitioner contended that due to the impugned order, his seniority as head constable and sub-inspector were wrongly disturbed years after they were granted. The dispute arose after the unofficial respondent, another driver-turned-officer, was placed above the petitioner in the seniority list on the ground that he held a heavy vehicle licence, giving him precedence under the service rules. Per contra, the respondent authorities contended that they assigned the unofficial respondent a notional date of promotion on par with the petitioner and revised the seniority list. The petitioner contended that the revision was barred by time and that his promotions could not be altered after so many years. The judge observed that the petitioner failed to object when notices were issued regarding the proposed revision and approached the Court belatedly. Holding that the proceedings of the excise department were in line with the service rules, the judge dismissed the writ plea, making it clear that the petitioner’s challenge lacked merit.

School challenges rejection of permit

The Telangana High Court will decide a writ plea filed by Sri Chaitanya High School challenging the rejection of permission to open classes from Nursery to VII English Medium at one of its branches. Justice K. Lakshman was hearing a writ plea challenging the order of July 2025 issued by the Kamareddy district education officer, rejecting the online application filed by the school for recognition for the academic year 2025-26. The petitioner contended that the order was passed arbitrarily without considering its representations and by suppressing reference to an earlier inspection report of June 2025. It was argued that the action violated a government order of January 1994. Counsel for the petitioner sought time to file photographs in support of the contention that the construction of the school building was complete and rejection of permission by the respondents is untenable. The judge directed the matter to be listed on August 28.
