A Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus caught fire at the bus stop number 5 in Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad, on Tuesday (August 26, 2025) morning due to a suspected electrical short circuit during ignition.

Officials said the bus, operating on route number 288 from Mehdipatnam to Moinabad, had just arrived at the stand when about 40 passengers alighted. Moments later, as the driver, identified as Junaid, attempted to restart the vehicle to move it out of the bay, flames erupted from the front portion.

The conductor, identified as Mallesh, and the driver escaped unhurt, and no passengers were inside at the time. Fire tenders rushed to the scene and doused the flames, but nearly 76% of the bus, bearing the number ‘TS 07 UC 0279’ of the Mehdipatnam depot, was gutted.
