WARANGAL: A man was arrested by the CCS and Kakatiya University police in Hanamkonda on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in multiple cases of chain-snatching and motorcycle theft. The police recovered stolen property worth ₹23.5 lakh from his possession, including 237 grams of gold ornaments, three motorcycles, ₹10,000 in cash, and a mobile phone.
Commissioner of police Sunpreet Singh said the accused, Manthurthi Harish, 29, a graduate from Damera mandal, currently residing in Hanamkonda, had quit his job as a quality technician at a company in Hyderabad and started stealing bikes to use them for chain snatching to lead a lavish lifestyle. Harish had committed 10 chain snatchings and three motorcycle thefts in the Warangal police commissionerate limits, according to police.
Alerted by a series of chain snatchings targeting women walking on empty roads, special teams were formed. Police identified Harish using surveillance technology and intelligence inputs. He was intercepted at Yadav Nagar crossroads while riding a stolen motorcycle. On spotting the police, he attempted to flee but was caught after a brief chase.
The commissioner commended the efforts of crime DCP Gunasekhar, ACPs Sadaiah and Narasimha Rao and the police personnel involved in the operation.
