Women’s Panel Asks BIE to Instruct Private Colleges to Declare Holidays On Sundays, Festivals

Hyderabad: Telangana State Commission for Women has urged the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) to instruct all the private junior colleges across the State to give holidays and not to conduct any special classes or examination on holidays and festivals.

In a letter addressed to the BIE Director, the Commission Secretary said that the State government has declared a holiday on the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi on Wednesday. However, some private junior colleges were not giving students a break on Sundays and festival days and it was observed that some private junior colleges were conducting special classes even during holidays, resulting in increased pressure on students.

“Studying without rest is becoming challenging for students,” the Secretary said.

Considering the complaints received from students, Commission Chairperson Nerella Sharada has suggested that the Intermediate Board should instruct all private junior colleges to give students holidays on Sundays, festival days, and especially on the occasion of Vinayaka Chavithi.

“Hence it is requested to instruct all the private junior colleges across the State to give holidays and not to conduct any special classes or examination on holidays and festivals,” the Secretary added.
