The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Telangana in the wake of incessant rains in the state.
Along with Telangana, Coastal Karnataka too has been placed on high alert, urging the civic officials to stay alert to brace the torrential weather conditions.
“Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall with isolated Extremely Heavy Rainfall very likely at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and Telangana,” mentioned a tweet by IMD on X.
According to local media reports, the meteorological departments have forecasted heavy rains for Hyderabad for the next couple of hours. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the police department have been put on alert too.
Officials have advised people not to step out unless for emergencies. People in the low-lying areas, too, have been warned to stay alert.
With the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities starting from today, the city is buzzing with activities. However, with the heavy rain forecast, traffic police and authorities are on their feet to control the crowd flocking to various pandals in the city. Several traffic divertions are in place to handle the mass, especially heading to see the famous Khairatabad Ganesh.
Along with Telangana, Coastal Andhra too has received an alert to face the high-speed winds. As per a report in Eenadu, moderate to heavy rains are predicted iin Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR and Guntur districts of the state.
