Cyber cop on cloud nine
Senior IPS officer Shikha Goel has every reason to smile. As Director of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TCSB), she has earned a glowing mention in the Parliamentary Standing Committee’s recent report on “Cyber Crimes – Trends, Safeguards and Regulation.” The committee chaired by BJP MP Radha Mohandas Agarwal praised Telangana, alongside Maharashtra and Kerala, for adopting innovative and effective initiatives to safeguard citizens from online threats. The panel observed that these pioneering practices should be replicated in other states to strengthen the overall cybercrime control system across India.

That’s the question many are asking in the Andhra Pradesh bureaucracy after another senior IPS officer, N. Sanjay, was sent to jail. The Supreme Court had recently quashed an order of anticipatory bail granted to the IPS officer in an alleged case of corruption. He is the second top-ranking IPS officer after P.S.R. Anjaneyulu to be sent behind bars. While some call it witch hunting by the present regime in AP, others allege serious wrongdoing on the part of the officers, which they feel landed them in trouble.
While many in his fraternity knew what was coming for Sanjay, what surprised many is how he could afford to hire the services of no other than Kapil Sibal to fight his case.
