Jailer 2 faces Hindi box office challenge

The shooting of Rajinikanth’s highly awaited sequel Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is progressing quickly, with reports suggesting that nearly half of the film has already been completed. The buzz is strong as fans track every update about this project.

Before Coolie released, many Kollywood trackers expected it to become the first 1000 crore film in the industry. However, mixed reviews led to a sharp fall in box office numbers soon after its opening weekend, reducing the earlier excitement.

Now, expectations are shifting towards Jailer 2. Trackers believe that if Nelson Dilipkumar delivers solid content, the film could comfortably reach the 1000 crore mark. They also note that Coolie’s Hindi version performed well despite its mixed response.

Coolie became the second highest-grossing Tamil dubbed film in Hindi, which boosted Nelson’s reputation in the North. Along with this, the success of Jailer on OTT and television has kept the title fresh in people’s minds, building momentum for its sequel.

Analysts believe Jailer 2 will have a stronger opening in North Indian states compared to recent Tamil pan-India films. Still, they warn that Anirudh Ravichander’s music cannot be the only saving grace this time, as the film needs a strong script.

Nelson’s previous films like Beast with Vijay and Jailer with Rajinikanth were criticised for weak plots and average storytelling. This has put pressure on him to showcase his true potential in Jailer 2 and prove himself as a filmmaker.

If Jailer 2 can achieve collections similar to 2.0 in Hindi, which earned around 230 crores in North India, then it has a chance of being Kollywood’s first 1000 crore grosser. However, experts also admit that such success will be very challenging.

Despite the uncertainty, Jailer 2 carries massive expectations. All eyes are on Nelson Dilipkumar to see if he can balance Rajinikanth’s star power with a compelling script and help Kollywood finally achieve the long-awaited 1000 crore milestone.
