Shriya Saran opens up on embracing mother roles

Shriya Saran, known for her enviable physique and timeless charm, is in her 40s but can easily pass off as someone in her 30s. No surprise that she continues to bag fashion campaigns and magazine covers.

At the same time, she isn’t shying away from roles that demand maturity. In “Mirai,” she plays mother to Teja Sajja, and earlier in Rajamouli’s RRR, she was seen as Ajay Devgn’s wife and Ram Charan’s mother. While her screen time with Ram Charan was limited, the role carried significance in the story.

Speaking about “Mirai,” Shriya said she has no qualms about playing mother characters to younger stars as long as the roles are substantial.

With over two decades in the industry since her Telugu debut Ishtam (2001), she now wishes to take up more meaningful and layered parts like this.

In the last three to four years, Shriya Saran focused on roles with more mature characters. She appeared in RRR (2022), playing Ajay Devgn’s wife, and was later seen in Kabzaa (2023), a Kannada period action drama. She also played a significant role in the Malayalam film Naragasooran and now in Mirai (2025), where she took on the role of a mother to Teja Sajja’s character, showing her willingness to experiment with diverse characters.
