Ethics, fairness must anchor India’s AI: Leaders

Hyderabad:Ethics, fairness and human values must form the foundation of India’s adoption of artificial intelligence, senior policymakers and business leaders said at a round table organised by the Dr. Pritam Singh Foundation and IILM University in Hyderabad on Friday.

The event, held in memory of leadership mentor Dr. Pritam Singh, brought together voices from industry, academia and governance to discuss the ethical use of AI in education, healthcare and fintech.

Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, inaugurating the event, cautioned against algorithmic bias and job losses. “Frameworks must reflect Indian values of fairness, inclusivity and transparency. AI literacy and governance systems are essential across higher education and industry,” he said.

In his keynote, ASCI chairman Padmanabhaiah Kantipudi described Dr Singh as a visionary who bridged academia and public leadership. Other speakers, including former GSK India chair P. Dwarakanath, RBI’s Deepak Kumar, and Prof. Vikas Singh, stressed the need for ethics-first leadership. “Universities must shape ethical leaders, not just skilled engineers,” Prof. Singh said.
