It gets the same adaptive dampers from the Model 3 Performance, but with a bespoke tune and new suspension.
Tesla has unveiled the new Model Y Performance. It comes with more power and a few design updates.
The Model Y Performance uses the same pair of ‘Performance 4DU’ motors as the most potent Tesla Model 3. It produces 450 BHP and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 kph) in just 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph (250 kph).
It is claimed to be equipped with a new type of ‘high-density’ battery cell which allows it to almost match the range of the standard AWD Model Y, despite the significant power boost. Tesla claims a range of 360 miles (579 km) on a single charge.
Apart from more power, the Model Y Performance gets other updates. It gets the same adaptive dampers from the Model 3 Performance, but with a bespoke tune and new suspension.
Additionally, there is a more aero-efficient front bumper, a diffuser-style rear bumper, a carbon rear spoiler, sports-style 21-inch alloy wheels and red brake calipers.
Inside, the Model Y Performance gets a slightly larger 16-inch touchscreen, which is said to be Tesla’s highest resolution screen to date. The front sports seats are heated and ventilated, and come with bigger side bolsters.
The Model Y Performance will be built at Tesla’s Brandenburg factory near Berlin, and will launch first in Europe and the Middle East before heading to other markets. Prices start at 61,990 GBP (83,630 USD). Deliveries will begin in October this year.
