Congress Blames BJP for Neglecting Kamareddy Flood Victims

KAMAREDDY: The Congress MLCs criticised BJP MLAs and MPs for failing to extend their support and rescue the flood victims in Kamareddy district. They alleged that, despite the people of Telangana voting for the BJP and electing 8 MLAs and 8 MPs, their elected representatives were failing to support the flood victims, and the Kamareddy flood incident was a classic example. Congress MLCs Vijayashanti, Balmoor Venkat Narsing Rao, Dayakar, and Shankar Naik on Sunday visited the flood-affected GR colony, Koundinya, and Housing Board colony in Kamareddy town. They interacted with the flood victims and assured them of possible assistance from the state government.

District collector Ashish Sangwan explained the flood impact and rescue operations in the district. In the GR colony, the MLC team visited each house and inquired about the victims’ problems.During the interaction, families broke down in tears in front of the MLCs’ team, saying they had suffered severe losses and their valuable belongings, certificates, and documents were completely soaked. MLC Vijayashanti consoled the families, urging them to stay strong and assuring them that the government would extend support. She spent nearly two hours in GR Colony, collecting details of flood damages from district collector Ashish Sangwan, and inquired about the relief measures being provided.

Speaking at the district congress office, Vijayashanti said that she had campaigned in Kamareddy during the assembly elections, and comparing the town then and now made her feel very sad. She said that when young girls were narrating their situation, she didn’t know how to respond, and seeing the condition of the colony residents brought tears to her eyes. Assuring that the government would be persuaded to provide more compensation than expected, the Congress MLC demanded to know what the BJP was doing while people were suffering. The people of Telangana had elected 8 MLAs and 8 MPs from the BJP. In such a crisis, it is the responsibility of the Centre to come forward and announce compensation. The people did not elect BJP representatives to sit idle. Locals also complained that their MLA, K.Venkataramana Reddy, has not been seen since the floods, she said.

DCC president Kailash Srinivas Rao, TPCC general secretaries Girija Shetkar and Uppala Srinivas Gupta, district library chairman Maddi Chandrakant Reddy, district women’s wing president Paka Jnaneshwari, and other leaders were present.
