Avoid installing MSIL skid plate accessory on your Maruti Suzuki Jimny

For those who are eyeing the new Jimny, my advice will be not to install the MSIL skid plate as an accessory.

BHPIAN SAMBA recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

What’s The Reason?

For those who want to install it just to enhance the look, for them it’s fine, but in off-road it’s more of a hassle. Plus, the glue does not hold up well with time.

While taking a ‘V’ obstacle, the front bumper mildly touched the ground, and the 3M tapes holding the skid plate failed miserably, and it came off from the upper side and kept dangling. Few installer make a couple of holes on the bumper and put it with screws and few installers just use the double sided tape. Mine had a couple screws on the upper part, but still it came off.

I had no other option rather then going underneath the front bumper and open the three screws from the bumper to uninstall the skid plate and again put the screws back to tighten the bumper. These are unnecessary hassles on an OTR day. The skid plate is meant to take minor hits, but rather, it caused more hassle than good. The Skid Plate on my earlier Duster AWD used to sustain these hits much better than the Jimny’s skid plate, which comes as an accessory. 3 Jimnys suffered the same hassle with the skid plate on the OTR day.

As of now, I have decided not to reinstall it. The black bumper might get some scratches underneath, but they are strong and resilient enough for small hits.
