Vijayawada: An ACB special court on Monday granted three days of custody of senior IPS officer and former crime investigation dept (CID) chief N Sanjay in connection with a case of alleged misappropriation of funds. As per the court’s directions, ACB officials will question Sanjay from Tuesday for three consecutive days between 8 am and 6 pm. After the completion of daily interrogation, he will return to Vijayawada district jail, where he has been lodged since his judicial remand.Sanjay, a DG-rank officer, surrendered before the ACB court in Vijayawada last week following the Supreme Court’s instructions. The court remanded him to 15 days of judicial custody, after which he was shifted to Vijayawada jail. He is the second DG-rank officer in the state to face questioning in an ACB-registered case.Earlier this year, another senior IPS officer, PSR Anjaneyulu, also of DG rank, and private company owner P Madhusudhan were questioned in connection with the APPSC Group 1 examination irregularities case.Meanwhile, disciplinary proceedings against other DG-rank officers continue. The govt recently extended the suspension of senior IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar, a 1993 batch officer, for another 180 days till Feb 24, 2026. He was first suspended in March over unauthorised foreign visits. The suspension was extended after a review committee cited ongoing probes, including an ACB investigation into alleged misuse of AgriGold relief funds and a criminal case linked to the alleged custodial torture of former MP K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju. Authorities maintained that lifting the suspension could risk tampering with evidence.
