Vijayawada: The officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday took senior IPS officer N Sanjay into custody in connection with alleged misuse of govt funds. The action follows an order from the Vijayawada ACB Court, which granted permission to interrogate him for three days on Monday.According to the court’s directive, Sanjay will be questioned daily between 8 am and 6 pm during the custodial period. Earlier in the day, ACB officials escorted him from the district jail in Vijayawada to the Govt General Hospital (GGH) for a medical examination before initiating the interrogation. The questioning is being conducted at the ACB office in Gollapudi.Officials are focusing on allegations related to financial irregularities, misappropriation of funds, and procedural violations during Sanjay’s tenure in multiple departments. Investigators are probing irregularities in the tendering process, payments to private companies, and discrepancies in the execution of projects. Reportedly, Sanjay has evaded several direct questions posed by the officials.It may be recalled that Sanjay, a 1996-batch IPS officer who previously served as Andhra Pradesh crime investigation department (APCID) chief and as director-general of fire services, surrendered before the ACB Special Court in Vijayawada on August 26 following Supreme Court directions. The court remanded him to 15 days of judicial custody, after which he was lodged in Vijayawada jail.The current three-day custodial interrogation is expected to conclude on Thursday, after which Sanjay will be produced before the ACB Court in Vijayawada as per legal procedure.
