It has been introduced in the 2025 Ather 450 Apex electric scooter.
BHPIAN LIBRANOF1987 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
Ather launched Infinite Cruise, their development of the Cruise Control feature, during the Ather Community Day 2025.
Ather mentioned that they came close to equipping their scooters with cruise control a few years ago, but decided against releasing it, to fine-tune the way it was to be implemented. They did not want to follow the existing underlying logic for it, which has, more or less, followed how it has been developed for four-wheelers. They highlighted that the current implementation considers four-wheelers cruising on the highways as the use case, while most two-wheelers in India would be navigating bumper-to-bumper traffic on our congested and obstacle-ridden city streets. While most cars allow cruise control to be enabled only beyond 40 km/hr, the riding data available to Ather through their scooters highlighted that most scooters were ridden typically at speeds <30 km/hr.
Infinite Cruise has been launched on the Ather 450 Apex scooter, and encompasses three features:
- City Cruise: The scooter will adapt and maintain the prevailing speed, according to changing road conditions – it will cruise at a higher speed as you accelerate and go faster, or the speed that you brake to and release the brake lever.
- Hill Control: The scooter will maintain the set speed, regardless of whether you’re going up hill, or descending – the Hill Control mechanism will ensure that you don’t need to intervene and accelerate to maintain speed as a scooter would typically slow down given the additional load on the motor, or continuously brake as the scooter gathers momentum while coming down the hill. It uses the Magic Braking Algorithm (which also powers the Magic Twist feature) for downhill descents, leveraging regenerative braking without manual intervention.
- Crawl Control: Developed for when riding on rough or uneven roads, the scooter will cruise at the set speed, even as low as 10 km/hr. This feature is enhanced with Multimode Traction Control for stability on wet or slippery surfaces.
Infinite Cruise is available between 10 and 90 km/hr, and will come standard on all new Ather 450 Apex scooters.
The feature will also be available on all 2025 Ather 450 Apex scooters, and will be enabled via an OTA update, starting the first week of September.
The MID when Infinite Cruise has not been enabled.
To engage Infinite Cruise, press the button on the right stalk. Remember, when stationary, this button allows the rider to select the direction of travel: Forward / Reverse. You can press the same button again to exit Infinite Cruise.
As you engage Infinite Cruise, the “Cruise” text is highlighted on the MID.
Should you brake, Infinite Cruise will adapt to the lower speed and maintain that speed.
As you accelerate, Infinite Cruise will consider the higher speed and continue to cruise.
In scenarios where Infinite Cruise has been engaged but you come to a complete halt (say, you stop at a traffic signal or encounter an obstruction on the road), it will remain active in the background and engage as you resume riding.
If you slow down below 10 km/hr, Infinite Cruise will pause and resume as you accelerate and maintain a speed beyond 10 km/hr.
If you try to engage Infinite Cruise at speeds lower than 10 km/hr, the following message will pop up on the MID.
